3 Maja Park

quarter between Kopcińskiego, Małachowskiego and Niciarniana streets

The park was established in 1919 to the design of I. Kołaczkowski in the place of the former Widzew urban forest, a remnant of the Lodz Primary Forest. Initially, it was three times larger than it is now, but during World War I, local people cut down most of the trees for heating. In the 1920s, a playground and sports field were arranged in the central part of the park. From 1923 until the breakout of World War II, summer day camps were organised there for children, and the park was also used by sport organisations. Currently, the park contains a sports hall - the Sport and Recreation Centre, and apart from numerous sports fields and playgrounds, it also has typical forest areas. The park is intersected by two walking alleys with oaks growing on the sides.
