The Villa was built in 1876 for Matylda, the daughter of the largest entrepreneur in Lodz, Karl Scheibler and her husband, Edward Herbst, who, after the death of his father-in-law, became the director of the Scheiblers' textile factory complex. The author of the design was the urban architect Hilary Majewski, who gave the building the unique form of a Neo-Renaissance mansion. The aesthetic values of the villa are emphasised by the large surrounding garden that makes it look like a rural mansion. In the direct vicinity of the residential building, the owners erected stables. The impressive interiors of the villa currently contain a Division of the Museum of Art in Lodz presenting the lifestyle of the wealthy family of industrialists. The building was reconstructed in the original Renaissance and Rococo style.
